WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 22, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash are proud to announce that shortstop Tyler Saladino has been named the Carolina League's "Player of the Week" for the week of August 15 - 21. This is the first time Saladino has been named "Player of the Week" in 2011 and he is the fourth Dash player to earn a league-wide honor.

Saladino has put together a remarkable week where he had a hit in all six games, and has a five-game multi-hit streak going into Monday's game at Salem. During the period, Saladino led all minor leaguers with a .630 (17-for-27) batting average with one home run and four RBI. He had a minor league best eight extra-base hits (four doubles, three triples, and one home run), including two triples in Sunday's series finale against Potomac. In that game, Saladino was a double shy of the cycle, but went 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored. His three triples also led all minor leaguers during the week, and his batting average jumped 30 points to .265.

In 88 games this season, Saladino has 16 home runs and 49 RBI. He is third in the Carolina League in slugging percentage (.501) and tied for second with seven triples. He also ranks third in the league in best home run per at-bats ratio (one per 21.69 at-bats), trailing teammate Ian Gac (leads the league in HR) and Wilmington's John Whittleman (second in the CL in HR).

Saladino spent the first part of the 2011 season at extended spring training in Arizona where he was rehabbing an injury he suffered during spring training. While playing in a game with the major league team, Saladino slid into second base and broke his hand. He joined the Dash on May 11.

The San Diego native is ranked by Baseball America as the 20th-best prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Oral Roberts University, where he was named 2010 Summit League Player of the Year. Saladino hit .379 with 18 home runs and 76 RBI. He led the team in homers, RBI and stolen bases (16). He was also named Summit League Newcomer of the Year in 2010.

Earlier this month, Gac took home the award. Before Gac, Andy Wilkins won the award for Winston-Salem while left-handed pitcher Matt Wickswat was named the CL "Pitcher of the Week" in July. Winston-Salem opens up a series in Salem on Monday at 7:05. Wickswat is slated to make his 11th start of the season.
