
Saints Wrap up Exhibition Season with 7-6 Win

ST. PAUL, MN (May 14, 2012) - From here on out they all count in the standings. The St. Paul Saints wrapped up the exhibition season with a 7-6 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Monday night at Midway Stadium in front of 2,525.
The Saints utilized six different pitchers giving several guys some work prior to the opener on Thursday. Reliever Reid Mahon worked two perfect innings of relief while Bret Severtson worked a perfect seventh inning of relief. With the Saints clinging to a one run lead in the ninth Dan Sattler gave up a one out infield single to Chris Roberson, who then stole second, but Sattler struck out the final two hitters of the night. He struck out all three outs in the ninth.
The Saints offense put together their most complete game of the exhibition season pounding out 10 hits. Jose Hernandez, who has had a great spring, collected three hits, going 3-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
The Saints, who trailed 5-0 heading into the fourth, put up four runs on a two-run homer from Benji Johnson and a two-run single from Hernandez.
One inning later the Saints took their first lead of the night when Alex Garabedian singled home Tanner Townsend and Adam Frost's sacrifice fly scored Johnson.
With the game tied at six in the bottom of the eighth Hernandez led off with a double, moved to third on a ground out and came around to score on a wild pitch.
The regular season begins on Thursday, May 17 at 7:05 p.m. against the Gary SouthShore Railcats. It is Military Appreciation Night presented by Cub Foods, Hiway Federal Credit Union and AUSA. The game can be heard live on Club 1220 KLBB.
