St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (July 24, 2008) - St. Paul Saints starter Justin Lord finally got some run support on Thursday night at Midway Stadium and he was tremendous as the Saints defeated the Wichita Wingnuts 9-4 in front of 6,360.

The Saints exploded for six runs in the second inning as they sent 10 men to the plate. With one out Kevin Sullivan started it with a single to center. Heath Keel and Josh Womack loaded the bases on back-to-back walks. Ryan Priddy got the Saints on the board with a bloop single to left to make it 1-0. The RBI hits kept coming from there. Tony Mansolino added a two-run single down the first base line making it 3-0. Ben Thomas doubled home Priddy making it 4-0 and chasing Wingnuts starter Gustavo Mata. Tim Brown finished the scoring in the inning with a two-run single to left.

Lord used those runs to his advantage. He hurled 7.1 innings allowing one run on eight hits while walking one and striking out three to pick up his fifth win of the season. He managed to strand runners on base in four of the seven full innings he pitched.

The Saints tacked on more in the fifth when Keel was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch. Priddy singled him to third and Mansolino drove home Keel with an infield single to short. Mansolino finished the night 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

With the score 7-1 in the sixth Keel came back to haunt his former team. With two outs Sullivan singled to left and Keel followed with a two-run homer to left, third as a Saint and eighth of the season. Sullivan finished the evening 3-5 with a double and two runs scored.

The same two teams meet Friday night in game three of the four game series at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Dustin Bolton (4-4, 3.33) to the mound against Wingnuts LHP Richard Salazar (4-3, 3.19). It is Hard Hats and Swingin' Bats presented by Labor Ready. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network (check saintsbaseball.com for the channel in your area) and heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
