San Angelo Saints News Release
Coming Up This Week â The Saints continue their long January slate of road games at Lubbock on Friday night and at Amarillo on Saturday.
Week In Review â The Saints went 2-0-2 this week with a home win over Odessa, a road win over New Mexico and road shoot-out losses to Corpus Christi and El Paso, earning at least one point in every game.
December 31st / San Angelo 1 - Corpus Christi 2 (SO) / Troy Mann scored a power-play goal 5:30 into the 1st period, but the Rayz tied the score at the 7:50 mark. The score remained 1-1 through regulation play and overtime as the Rayz' Brent Belecki and the Saints' Scott Reid slammed the door on their opponents. Mike Tilson potted the game-winner in the shoot-out for the Rayz as only one Saint could beat Belecki.
January 2nd / Odessa 5 - San Angelo 7 / The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 1st period lead, but the Jacks fought back, scoring twice during a Major power-play to make it 3-2 heading to the 2nd. Four unanswered 2nd period goals put the Saints up 7-2 before sloppy play in the 3rd period helped the Jacks make a game of it with 3 goals in the 3rd period. Steve Roberts notched a hat-trick for the Saints in the win. Jarett Metz (2G, 2A), Brad Cook (1G, 4A) and Chris Peach (3A) also had multi-point games for the Saints.
January 3rd / San Angelo 3 - El Paso 4 (SO) / Trailing 1-0, the Saints scored two 2nd period goals and another early in the 3rd to take a 3-1 lead. But, the Buzzards tallied mid-way thru the 3rd period and then tied the score with less than a minute to play. In the shoot-out Troy Linna potted the game-winner for El Paso as, again, only one Saints could score. Jarett Metz, Steve Roberts and Kori Davison each scored goals for the Saints.
January 4th / San Angelo 4 - New Mexico 1 / Leg-weary from 4-games in 5-days, the Saints got an early lead and then played defensive hockey the rest of the game to end the week on a high note with a win over the Scorpions. Only a 3rd period goal by Peter Brearley ruined the shut-out for Saints goalie Jamie Ronayne. Brent Currie scored his first goal of the season for the Saints who also got goals from Jan Jas, Chris Peach and Kori Davison.
Injury Report â Jamie Thompson has been placed on the season ending injured reserve. Jarett Metz and Jeff Cheeseman are back in the line-up, but Corri Moffat and Jason Abel will miss extended time with their injuries. Kelly Miller re-injured his ankle against El Paso and his return date in still questionable.
