San Angelo Saints News Release
Coming Up This Week â The Saints continue their torrid December schedule with 4 games this week. Tuesday the Saints travel south to ring in the New Year at Corpus Christi, then return home to host the Odessa Jackalopes on Thursday. After Thursday's game its back on the road to El Paso Friday and New Mexico on Saturday to finish out the week.
Week In Review â The Saints went 0-3-0 this week with a home loss to Laredo sandwiched in between road losses to Laredo and New Mexico.
December 26th / San Angelo 2 - Laredo 7 / The Saints actually led this game 1-0 when Steve Roberts scored 5 minutes into the 1st period. But, the floodgates then opened as Laredo scored 3 goals in the 1st period, 2 in the 2nd and 2 more in the 3rd period before San Angelo scored again when Chris Peach put in the puck after a scramble in front of the net for the final 7-2 score.
December 27th / Laredo 4 - San Angelo 3 / The Saints snatched defeat from the jaws of victory Friday night as they let a 3rd period lead slip away and dropped their second game to the Bucks in as many nights. With the Bucks leading 1-0 the Saint scored 3 2nd period goals and led 3-2 going into the 3rd. At the 11:05 mark of the 3rd period Andy Lundbohm wacked the puck out of goalie Scott Reid glove and into the net to tie the game. Then, a bouncing puck eluded the Saints' defensemen and landed right on the stick of Chris Grenville who scored the game winning goal for the 4-3 win. This was the final game of the season between the Bucks and Saints. The Saints end the season series 4-3-1 against Laredo.
December 28th / San Angelo 2 - New Mexico 7 / The Scorpions scored early and often, and led the game 6-0 before the Saints could muster a goal in the 3rd period. Six different Scorpions scored goals and five registered multi-point games as the road-wearing Saints put up little defensive resistance. Trevor Weisgerber and Steve Roberts potted 3rd period goals to avert the shut-out, but the damage was already done as the Saints dropped their 5th straight game. The Scorpions are now 3-0 against the Saints this season and will meet just twice more with both games in New Mexico.
Injury Report â Jamie Thompson has been placed on the season ending injured reserve. Jarett Met came off injured reserve last week and Jeff Cheeseman comes off in time for the games this week. However, they have been replaced on the injured list by team Captain Corri Moffat who will miss 3-4 weeks with a knee injury, and Jason Abel who may have to have season-ending hernia surgery. Forward Kelly Miller is also questionable for this week as are goaltender Scott Reid and forward Jan Jas. The rest of the guys are just passing the flu back and forth.
Saints in the City â The Saints players have had a busy holiday season off the ice as well. Players spoke at every elementary school DARE Graduation the last couple weeks and also rang bells and manned the buckets at the mall for the Salvation Army. Our Grades for Blades program will kick off at the end of the February grading period.
