Laredo Bucks News Release
(12/30/02) By scoring 17 goals in three games last week, the Central Hockey League's highest-scoring team extended its winning streak to four games. In their last 25 contests, the Laredo Bucks are 17-4-4. On tap next is a New Year's Eve showdown with the first-place Austin Ice Bats at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks trail the Bats by seven points in the Southeast Division standings.
Rookie right wing Joey Sewell led the Bucks scoring attack last week with six goals and an assist in three games. Sewell posted his first professional hat trick in Thursday's 7-2 win against San Angelo. On Saturday, he scored twice in the second period to help the Bucks to a 6-2 win against Corpus Christi. With 17 goals, Sewell is just two goals behind Eric Schneider and Chris Grenville for the team lead. Grenville remains hot as well; in a 4-3 win at San Angelo on Friday, he set up the tying goal in the third period and scored the game-winner with 6:16 remaining. The Bucks' player/assistant coach has ten points in his last four games.
The Bucks have just begun a six-game homestand, the longest of the season at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The next home game is tomorrow night's eight o'clock clash with Austin, followed by a New Year's Eve "Fiesta del Año Nuevo" featuring fireworks, live music and more. A Bucks ticket is required to join the party. Tickets are available at the Laredo Entertainment Center Box Office and Ticketmaster ticket centers. The Ice Bats have won two of three encounters with the Bucks this year. Austin is 22-5-1 with the CHL's best defense, allowing just 1.82 goals per game. The Bucks (17-8-4) lead the league in offense, scoring four goals per game. The new calendar year begins with Bucks home games Friday, January 3 vs. Lubbock, Saturday, January 4 vs. Odessa and Thursday, January 9 vs. El Paso.
