St. Paul Saints News Release

SHREVEPORT, LA (July 13, 2007) - It turned out to be a lucky Friday the 13th for the St. Paul Saints as they waited out a 75 minute rain delay to earn a 4-2 victory over the Shreveport Sports at Fairgrounds Field.

The Saints got a great quality outing from starter Adam Brandenburg who hurled 7.0 innings allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking three and striking out four. He didn't figure in the decision, but he kept the Saints in it all night long.

With the game tied at two in the ninth Adam Bourassa singled off the glove of secondbaseman Jack Joffrion. Marcel Longmire followed with a single to left. With two outs Adam Olow walked to load the bases. Alex Fonseca then ripped a two-run single to left which proved to be the game winning hit.

The Sports got on the board first in the second when Justin Humphries reached on a single to left. He advanced to second when J.P. Schmidt hit a grounder to thirdbaseman Ben Thomas who threw the ball towards second, but it wound up in rightfield. With two outs Juan Ventura singled home Humphries.

The Saints took a 2-1 lead in the third when Fonseca walked to lead off the inning. With two outs Scooter Jordan hit his second professional homer and second of the season, a two-run shot to right.

The Sports tied it in the bottom of the inning when Deacon Burns led off with a hit by a pitch. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Wade Robinson. Burns advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.

The same two teams meet Saturday night at Fairgrounds Field at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Brian Whinnery (5-1, 1.80) to the mound while the Sports are TBA. The game can be heard on KBGY 107.5 FM.
