Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
URBANDALE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (19-6-1-2, 41 pts) used a third-period power-play goal from James Reeder to defeat the Des Moines Buccaneers (10-14-4-0, 24 pts) 5-3 on Friday night.
The Fighting Saints led 3-1 early in the second, scoring three-unanswered goals after allowing the first goal on Friday. However, a late Des Moines goal in the second and an early Bucs goal in the third tied the game.
Then, the Saints earned their only power play of the night. Entering Friday, the Saints' power play was scoreless in eight chances at Buccaneer Arena this season. On their lone chance of the night, it took just 40 seconds for the Saints to score with Reeder's 10th of the season. Jake Sondreal and Charlie Arend earned assists and the Saints held the lead for the final 14:30 of regulation.
Sondreal led the way with a three-point night on a goal and two assists. It was his third-straight multi-point effort and second three-point game in the last three. Sondreal is tied for the league-lead with 34 points this season.
Noah Powell also recorded a three-point night with two goals and an assist. The Reeder, Sondreal, Powell line combined for four goals and eight points in Friday's win.
Thatcher Bernstein earned his fifth win of the season, stopping 19 of 22 shots in the win. It was Bernstein's second-straight win in the Saints' net.
Matthew Desiderio, Jayden Jubenvill and Lucas St. Louis all added assists in the win from the Saints' blue line.
Dubuque has won four-straight contests with Friday's win and will head into a home-and-home with Waterloo the next two nights to finish out the calendar year.
The Fighting Saints host Waterloo at 7:05 p.m. CST on Saturday before heading to Waterloo Sunday evening.
