Saints Sign Free Agent Infielder from Pirates, Activate Balet

ST. PAUL, MN (July 2, 2008) - As the St. Paul Saints begin the second half of the season manager George Tsamis is doing all he can to strengthen his club as he signed free agent infielder Tony Mansolino and took outfielder Pichi Balet off the inactive list.

The 25-year-old Mansolino was a 26th round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2005 and spent the 2008 season with the Lynchburg Hillcats (Single-A). He hit .164 with one homer and 15 RBI in 43 games. In 159 at bats he scored 12 runs and had six doubles.

During his first three seasons with the Pirates organization he was a .230 hitter with 14 homers and 95 RBI in 287 career games. Mansolino is a graduate of Vanderbilt University.

In his first game with the Saints on Tuesday night he went 2-4 with a double and three RBI.

Balet played in six games before breaking a bone in his left foot. He was hitting .688 (11-16) at the time with three doubles and two RBI. In his first game back on Tuesday night he went 2-4 with an RBI.

The Saints roster now stands at 21 players, nine pitchers and 11 position players. The Saints can have a maximum of 22 players on their roster.
