ST. PAUL, MN (April 19, 2012) - With four weeks until Opening Day of their 20th season the St. Paul Saints are one step closer to filling out their roster after signing right-handed pitcher Dan Sattler.

The 28-year-old Sattler spent all of last season with the Los Angeles Angels organization, most of it at Double-A Arkansas. He was 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in 19 relief appearances. In 30.0 innings pitched he walked 21 and struck out 29. He was placed on the disabled list on May 16 with a left foot contusion and made five rehab assignments with the Arizona Angels from July 20-31. Early in the season he pitched two scoreless appearances with Single-A Inland Empire of the California League

Sattler was a 44th round selection by the Texas Rangers out of Purdue University in 2006. He pitched two seasons for the Rangers reaching Single-A in 2008. After being released by the Rangers in 2009 he caught on with the Kansas City T-Bones of the Independent Northern League and was dominant. He went 3-3 with a 1.66 ERA which included two separate lengthy stints without giving up an earned run. He went 13 straight relief appearances without allowing an earned run from June 17-July 13 and eight straight relief appearances without allowing a run from July 24-August 8. His success brought him attention and his contract was purchased by the Oakland Athletics on August 26.

He spent one season with the Athletics organization and pitched at Single-A and Double-A in 2010. Following the season the Angels took him in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

The Saints roster currently stands at 22, 10 pitchers and 12 position players. They have re-signed six players this offseason, agreed to terms with three players and signed 11 free agents. Along with those 20 players the Saints picked up the option on two others. The Saints can carry up to 27 players into camp, a maximum of 23 players during the first 10 days of the season and then must be down to the league maximum of 22 players after that.

The Saints begin their 20th season on Thursday, May 17 with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Gary SouthShore Railcats. Single game tickets, group tickets and specialty seating areas are on sale by contacting the Saints office at 651-644-6659 or visiting saintsbaseball.com.
