Saints Pound Cats 10-3, Even Series 1-1

ST. PAUL, MN (September 4, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints didn't want to go on the road down 0-2 and they left little doubt early that they would even the American Association Championship Series at a game a piece as they beat up on the Fort Worth Cats 10-3 on Tuesday night at Midway Stadium in front of 1,804.

The Saints used a big seven run second inning to put the game away. Brian Sprout led off with a double and with one out scored on a Kevin Sullivan RBI single. With two outs Sullivan stole second and Demtrius Heath walked. Adam Bourassa had an RBI single and advanced to second on the throw home. Derrick White walked to load the bases and Marcel Longmire followed with a two-run single to make it 4-0. Fernando Valenzuela Jr. drilled a three-run homer to right, his second of the playoffs and finish the scoring in the inning.

Valenzuela added an RBI single in the fourth when Longmire was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Valenzuela's single. He finished the night 2-4 with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored.

Saints starter Justin Lord did the rest hurling 7.0 innings allowing one run on eight hits while striking out one to pick up his second victory in the playoffs.

The Saints and Cats have tomorrow off to head down to LaGrave Field and resume the American Association Championship Series on Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Alec Shepherd (1-0, 3.00) to the mound against Cats RHP Lee Gwaltney (1-0. 1.50). The game can be heard live on KBGY 107.5 FM.
