Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (35-12-3-3, 76 pts) scored twice in each period to take down the Madison Capitols (26-21-4-2, 58 pts) 6-2 on Friday night.
Noah Powell wasted no time to open the second period and gave the Saints a 3-0 lead just 18 seconds in. His team-leading 32nd goal ended up as the game-winner in the victory for the Saints. In last Friday's win, Noah Powell scored with 19 seconds left in the second period to put the Saints up 2-0 over Muskegon.
The Fighting Saints opened Friday's game spending most of the first period in Madison's zone. Dubuque only allowed six shots in the first and got the scoring started with Andrew King's third goal of the season. Jake Sondreal scored his first of two on the night just a few minutes later and the Saints took a 2-0 lead into the second. The Saints' captain has 26 goals and his 65 points lead the team.
Seamus Powell and Erik Påhlsson followed Noah Powell's tally with power-play goals as the Saints went 2-4 on the man-advantage and led 5-1 early in the third.
Dubuque killed three of four penalties in the contest, allowing its first power-play goal in the month of March. Dubuque had not allowed a goal on the kill since Feb. 24 at Madison. The Capitols are the only team in the last 13 to score a power-play goal on the Saints.
Dylan Johnson won his second-straight game, stopping 24 saves on 26 shots. He's allowed three goals or less in seven of his eight appearances this season and has four wins overall.
Seamus Powell, Noah Powell, James Reeder, Fisher Scott and Sondreal all recorded multiple points in the win, with Reeder's three assists leading the way.
Dubuque returns to home-ice on Saturday to face-off against the East's second-place Green Bay Gamblers at 7:05 p.m.
