Saints Host Steel and Black Hawks to Begin December
December 3, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
Looking for their first win of the season, the Dubuque Fighting Saints will face two stiff tests as they take on the Chicago Steel on Friday and the Waterloo Black Hawks on Saturday. Dubuque will settle in for their first set of back-to-back games since opening weekend. Chicago comes in boasting another team with a high-powered offense while Waterloo is still an unknown with just two games under their belts. Get ready for the games right here:
-Dubuque will face a good test Friday in Chicago. Not only are the Steel a strong team, but Dubuque has given up a fair number of goals this season and Chicago loves to score. It will be a solid test of the Saints defensive progress this week in practice.
-Waterloo, on the other hand, has not played since November 14th. The Black Hawks had their remaining five games in November postponed due to COVID-19 regulations. Waterloo has one win and one loss and PK O'Handley's squad is always solid, we just don't know much about this current crop of players.
-Chicago not only has the most goals scored this season, but they have the most allowed as well. The defense has yet to show up, but when you boast four of the top five scorers in the league, it is easier to win while allowing a bunch. Matt Coronato, Eric Middendorf, Sean Farrell and Makie Samoskevich sit in the top five.
-Dubuque's offense is being led by the consistent presence of Daniyal Dzhaniyev. Danny has five points in four games and leads the team with four goals. Connor Kurth is a point per game player so far this season, Riley Stuart has notched three assists and Evan Stella has poured in two goals from the blue line already.
-Special teams will be a point of emphasis this weekend, especially Friday. Dubuque comes into the game with the lowest power play percentage in the East, while Chicago features the league's best PP at 40%. On the PK, Chicago has allowed six goals on 17 chances for the opponent while Dubuque has let in four on 14. Waterloo has no PP goals and has allowed one PP goal themselves.
-The Saints have continued to get production from their blue line as the defense have done a great job on offense this season. The group features a plethora of returners and plenty of junior hockey experience outside of the Fighting Saints group. Evan Stella leads the way with two goals while Michael Feenstra also has a goal.
-Dubuque will play twice at home next weekend against the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Friday and Saturday.
