TOKUSHIMA, JAPAN - The St. Paul Saints finished off their 10-day trip to Japan in fine fashion with a pair of wins over the Indigo Socks, 8-3, and 2-1, October 11-12 here.

St. Paul, the first minor league team ever to tour Japan, went 5-0 on the trip.

The games against the Socks were expected to be the toughest on the tour. In the first game, Ben Thomas, acquired from St. Joe just prior to the trip, drilled a shot off the centerfield wall to score Josh Renick with the game's first run in the first inning- and things got better from there. In the second, St. Paul scored six times and rolled to the win.

The final game lived up to advance billing. The Saints were matched up against RHP Kazuhito Tadano, who spent most of 2006 pitching for Sacramento in the AAA Pacific Coast League. The Socks jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and it would have been more but Steve Butler made a diving catch to prevent further damage.

It was still 1-0 in the seventh when Pat Scalabrini and Jeremy Frost opened the inning with singles. After Chaz Lytle bunted the runners up a base, Scalabrini raced home on a passed ball. Butler then followed with a single to right to score Frost with the winning run.

"It was a great trip," said Derek Sharrer, St. Paul Vice President/General Manager. "Our hosts could not have been more gracious and our players represented St. Paul - and the American Association - very well. It was a memorable experience."
