
Pelicans Pierce named to Baseball America's All-Indy team

The Pensacola Pelicans are proud to announce that pitcher Tony Pierce has been named to Baseball America's All-Independent Leagues Team which was announced today.
Pierce is the Pelicans single season saves leader recording 21 saves during the 2006 season which was the second best in the American Association. He appeared in 37 games as a relief pitcher posting a 1.81 earned run average, striking out 53 batters and walking only 22 in 34 1/3 innings pitched.
Pierce had a stretch during the 2006 season of 15 consecutive appearances without allowing a run. He struck out the side three times (recording all three outs in an inning by a strikeout) and also struck out the last batter of the game 11 times.
During the 2006 season, there were a total of seven Independent baseball leagues with 56 teams participating in professional baseball. The leagues were composed of the American Association, the Atlantic League, the Can-Am League, the Frontier League, the Golden League, the Northern League and the United League.
Baseball America is an alternative Major League Baseball resource, with in-depth coverage of every level of the game and a particular focus on up-and-coming players. Baseball America is currently in its 25th season as the magazine was founded in 1981.
