Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints extended the Clark Cup Final with a 3-1 win over the Fargo Force in Game 3 of the series on Friday night.

Dubuque cut its series deficit to 2-1 with the win on Friday night, gaining momentum with a late-first period power-play goal by Gavin Cornforth at 19:49 of the frame.

It was the first power-play goal of the series for Dubuque on its fourth chance of the Final. Beckett Hendrickson found Noah Powell in front and despite a save from Hampton Slukynsky, Cornforth was on the back-door to pounce on the rebound. Cornforth's first of the series and third of the playoffs put the Saints ahead into an intermission for the first time in the Clark Cup Final.

Just past the halfway point of the second, Juraj Pekarcik corralled a puck after a turnover by Fargo defenseman Leo Gruba and found Seamus Powell activating from the blue line. Powell kicked the puck to his stick and wristed a shot by Slukynsky to put Dubuque ahead 2-0. Pekarcik logged his team-leading 10th point of the playoffs with the assist.

After a late goal by Reid Daavettila on an odd-man rush in the second period, Dubuque entered the third period with a 2-1 advantage. Early in the third, Dubuque faced its second penalty kill of the game on an interference call against Lucas St. Louis.

The Saints killed it off with Kevin Reidler making a few saves on his way to 23 stops in the contest.

Just a few minutes later, St. Louis found Jake Sondreal on a lofted pass toward the net. Sondreal settled and swatted a knuckling puck over Slukynsky's shoulder to extend the Dubuque lead to 3-1.

Dubuque held on with an empty-net push by Fargo to win Game 3 and extend the series to Game 4.

The Saints will host Game 4 on Saturday night at 7:05 at ImOn Arena.
