May 17, 2024 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints host the Fargo Force on Friday night for Game 3 of the Clark Cup Final with a 2-0 series deficit.
Here are five things to know ahead of the matchup:
1. Saints Starts
The Fighting Saints opened the scoring in Game 2 of the Clark Cup Final on Saturday night in Fargo after allowing the first tally of Game 1 the night before. Scoring first has been a trend for Dubuque in the postseason so far.
Entering the series, Dubuque had scored the first goal in six-straight playoff games. With Juraj Pekarcik's opening tally in Game 2, the Saints have scored first in seven of their nine Clark Cup Playoff games.
2. Pekky Points
Pekarcik leads the Saints in scoring in the postseason with nine points in nine playoff games. Overall, Pekarcik is second in playoff scoring among all skaters.
The Slovakian forward scored a goal and added an assist in Game 2 of the Clark Cup Final for Dubuque. In total, Pekarcik has three goals and six assists throughout the playoffs.
3. Puck Pressure
After mustering just 23 shots in Game 1 against Fargo, Dubuque put more pressure on the Force in Game 2. Dubuque's highest pressure period of Game 1 was the third period when the Saints launched 10 shots on goal.
In Game 2, Dubuque roared out of the gate with 13 shots in the first period and Pekarcik's opening tally. The Saints fired 20 more shots the rest of the night to finish with 33 shots on goal in the contest.
4. Arend Amazes
With the Saints trailing by two in the third period of Game 2, Charlie Arend took a pass from Seamus Powell and cruised through the neutral zone. As he entered the offensive end, Arend blazed between two Fargo defenders and roofed a backhand to score his first career playoff goal.
The first-year Saint has three points in seven playoff games so far and has a plus-1 rating in that span.
5. Force Finds
The Force finished the regular season with a 37-0-1-0 record when leading after two periods. Fargo has led both of the first two games of the Clark Cup Final after 40 minutes.
The lone loss for Fargo when leading into the third came on Nov. 3 in Fargo against the Fighting Saints. Dubuque erased a one-goal deficit to force overtime before Lucas St. Louis scored the overtime-winner. In the postseason, Fargo has won all eight games it has led into the third period, but lost both contests in which it entered the third tied or behind.
Game 3 of the Clark Cup Final is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at ImOn Arena and tickets can be purchased here. The game can be found on Eagle 102.3 and FloHockey.
