St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN – Billy Munoz slammed a pair of home runs and Kris Cox had the first four hit game of his career as the St. Paul Saints survived a late rally for a 7-6 Northern League victory over Calgary Tuesday night.

The Saints moved over .500 for the first time this year at 3-2 while the expansion Vipers fell to 1-3 before 5,701 fans at Midway Stadium.

Munoz, a former Twins farmhand, hit a solo shot and a two-run blast to help St. Paul to a 5-2 lead after three innings. It was the fourth two-home run game of his career.

Cox, who also stole two bases and drove in two runs, banged his fourth single of the night to key a two-run rally that seemed to have the game well in hand at 7-3. But Fehlandt Lentini drilled a three-run homer off Hibbing native Billy Zbacnik to make things a bit tight at the finish.

Tim Christman gave up a walk and an infield single but fanned Carlos Duncan to earn his first save of the season. Adam Larson (1-0), making just the fourth start of his four-year career, went five innings, allowing a pair of unearned runs to earn the victory, the 299th for manager George Tsamis.

Matt Miller (0-1), the first of five Calgary pitchers, took the loss.

The teams meet again Wednesday night at Midway Stadium with righthander Evan Greusel (0-1) facing St. Paul righty Bryan Gaal (0-1) at 7:05 p.m.. The three-game series, the only meeting this year between the teams, finishes with a rare 11:05 a.m. start at Midway Thursday.
