Schaumburg Flyers News Release

The St. Paul offense was red hot again on Monday night, as the Saints won by a score of 13-9, evening this opening series at two games apiece.

R.J. Swindle (0-1) pitched five innings and yielded as many earned runs. He did, however, strike out eight batters and did not issue a free pass in the losing effort. St. Paul's Cartier (1-0) was credited the win in his solid five-inning outing.

After hitting an impressive 22 hits and scoring 15 runs the night before, the Saints once again created problems for Flyers pitching. The Saints were again in control of the game and recorded 21 hits and 13 runs. Eight of nine Saints had at least one hit in the contest.

The Flyers were down all game but did come close to tying St. Paul in the sixth, narrowing the deficit to 5-3. However, in the bottom frame, Jenkins allowed three runners to reach base, setting the table for a six-run inning that all but put the game out of reach. Lyle Prempas was charged with all six runs, and the score swung from a 5-3 deficit to an 11-3 affair.

The Flyers rallied to score four in the eighth and tacked on two more in the ninth, but it proved too little too late. Nevertheless, Flyers bats were alive tonight. Schaumburg totaled 11 hits, and Josue Lopez had his first hits and RBI after a slumping start to the season. Lopez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.

In the aftermath of the opening series, both teams move to 2-2 on the year. Schaumburg returns home Tuesday to Alexian Field, where they open at home against Fargo-Moorhead.

Notes: St. Paul committed five errors on the night, a few of which led to runs for Schaumburg. However, the extra opportunities proved inconsequential, as the Saints maintained control until the very end.
