Gary, Ind.—Edmonton starting pitcher Trevor Marcotte and two relievers combined to scatter six base hits and the Cracker-Cats made two first inning runs stand up for a 2-1 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Tuesday night before a crowd of 4,691.

Edmonton jumped out ahead in the first inning, scoring two runs against RailCats starting pitcher Greg Bruso. Stubby Clapp led off with a single to center and went to second on a single to right by Ricky Magdaleno. Chris Becker grounded out to second to advance the runners to second and third, and Jeremy Ware followed with a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Clapp for the game's first run. Derek Patterson brought in Magdaleno with a single to center to make it 2-0.

The RailCats scored their only run in the fifth when Alex Taylor singled with one out, went to second on a passed ball, and scored on Curt Lee's single to center to make it a one-run game.

The RailCats had a great chance to tie the game in the sixth when Scott Samuels singled with one out, stole second, and went to third on pinch-hitter Brandon O'Neal's infield single. But Cracker-Cats reliever Aric Van Gaalen induced a double play ball to shortstop on the first pitch to Steve Haake to end the threat, and the RailCats did not see another man reach base the rest of the way.

The two clubs will meet again Wednesday at 12:00 Noon. Jamie Bennett (1-0, 3.38) will pitch for Gary while Mike Kusiewicz (1-0, 2.00) will take the ball for Edmonton.
