Saints acquire center in trade

San Angelo, TX – The San Angelo Saints announced they have acquired Lyle Steenbergen today from the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Deals of the trade include Steenbergen for future considerations at the end of the season. The Saints will provide Bossier-Shreveport six names at the end of the season for them to choose from. Steenbergen will have to play a minimum of seven games with the Saints or the trade will become void, he is expected to play in tonight's game versus the Amarillo Gorillas.

Steenbergen, a 6', 195 lbs. center from Sylvan Lake, Alberta, has currently played 17 games with the Mudbugs, currently sitting with 2 goals and 30 penalty minutes. "This is a case of a player not having the ice time he needs in Bossier," said Saints Head Coach Ray Edwards. "Lyle is a natural center and a great all around player. I look to him to add some offensive to the team." Steenbergen played 58 games with the Jacksonville Barracudas in the World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) last season and finished third on the team in points (56) and goals (27) and helped Jacksonville earn the league championship. In 2002-2003, Steenbergen played with the Tulsa Oilers, where he amassed 11 goals and 19 assists in 58 games played. Steenbergen also won another championship with the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL in the 1998-1999 season.
