Scorpions Sign Weber, Ready for C-Kings Tonight
December 28, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â The New Mexico Scorpions signed a new player in preparation for tonight's game at Tingley Coliseum against the Lubbock Cotton Kings. Rookie Matt Weber, who can play both defense and forward, was signed by the Scorpions earlier today. The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Binghamton, N.Y. will replace another University of Denver alumnus on the Scorpions roster in Erik Adams, who was placed on the 45-Day Injured Reserve list with a shoulder injury suffered during a Dec. 17 game at San Angelo.
Weber will be in the lineup for tonight's game, which starts at 7:05 p.m. All kids 15 and under can get grandstand tickets for just $6. The Scorpions are in third place in the ultra-competitive Northwest Division with a 13-9-3 record while the Cotton Kings are in first place in the Southwest Division with a 15-6-2 mark.
Weber, 25, played three seasons for the Pioneers, mostly as a forward. He scored a career-high 14 goals during his first season, including his only college hat trick. He recorded 23 points during each of his first two seasons. Earlier this season, he played six games for the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League, posting one assist and two penalty minutes.
"Matt has the potential to be a very valuable player because he can play both defense and forward," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "In light of our current situation with Erik Adams being out of the lineup, we'll start him off on defense tonight. He hasn't played much in the last year and a half, but the word is that Matt has a lot of upside to his game."
The Scorpions also announced today that their next home game against Lubbock, which is the Scorpions School Day game originally scheduled for Feb. 8, has been moved up a week to Tuesday, Feb. 1 due to the scheduling of a Cher concert at Tingley Coliseum. Faceoff will remain 11:05 a.m.
Tonight's game will be broadcast on Sports Radio 610 The Sports Animal and on the Internet at www.scorpionshockey.com and www.broadcastmonsters.com beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan.
The Scorpions begin a four-game road trip at Colorado on Friday, Dec. 31 against the archrival Eagles. Faceoff is 7:05 p.m. The busy week continues on New Year's Day with a 6:11 p.m. MST faceoff against the I-40 rival Gorillas.
Tickets for all Scorpions regular season home games are available at the Scorpions Team Store, located at 6300 San Mateo NE at the corner of San Mateo and Academy in the Far North Shopping Center, and any TicketMaster outlet. Single-game tickets start as low as $11.
Ten-game packages and Scorpions voucher books are available starting at $110. For more information, call the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825).
