Saint John Takes 1-0 Lead in Opening Round Playoff Series

SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Saint John Sea Dogs kicked off their 2010 President's Cup drive with a bang on Friday night, annihilating the P.E.I. Rocket by a score of 8-3 in front of 4,218 fans at Harbour Station. Saint John now owns a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Eight different goal scorers contributed to Friday's playoff-opening victory, with Nathan Beaulieu, Tomas Jurco, Stanislav Galiev, Mike Hoffman, Michael Kirkpatick, Jonathan Huberdeau, Nicholas Pard, and Pierre Durepos all finding the back of the net for the home team. Michael Stinziani, Jimmy Oligny, and Louis-Philippe Lacroix tallied markers for the visitors in a losing effort.

Veteran goaltender Marco Cousineau made 28 saves for Saint John in registering the 15th victory of his post-season career. Evan Mosher, meanwhile, took the loss between the pipes for P.E.I., surrendering six goals in forty minutes of action prior to being pulled in favour of Wendell Vye.

Saint John drew first blood on Friday when superstar sniper Mike Hoffman blasted a long-range one-timer to the back of P.E.I.'s net in the fifth minute of play. Rookie winger Jonathan Huberdeau doubled the hosts' lead at the 15:06 mark of the opening frame, burying
