
Sea Dogs awarded Jean-Rougeau Trophy

BOUCHERVILLE - The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, was on hand tonight at Harbour Station to present the Jean-Rougeau Trophy to the regular season champion Sea Dogs prior to their first playoff game. Saint John also received the Luc-Robitaille Trophy during pre-game festivities.
"After finishing the 2008-09 campaign with 34 wins, the Sea Dogs closed out the year with 53 victories and captured their first regular season championship with 109 points. I would like to congratulate the players, the front office, the coaching staff and the support staff for their extraordinary season. Finally, I would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support. Saint John is quickly becoming one of the League's premier markets," commented the Commissioner.
Lisa Savidant of Irving Oil and Mike Harroun of Moosehead Breweries were on hand tonight at Harbour Station to present the Luc-Robitaille Trophy (highest total of goals scored during the regular season) to Sea Dogs captain Mike Thomas. Saint John registered a league-high 309 markers this season (photo credit - David Connell).
At Moncton Coliseum, captain Scott Brannon received the Robert-Lebel Trophy (best team goals-against-average) from Jean Brousseau, the President of the Board of Governors. The Wildcats allowed a league-low 164 goals this season.
Also at the Coliseum, David Savard was awarded the Kevin-Lowe Trophy as the best defensive defenseman of the year. The St-Hyacinthe native registered 77 points and an excellent +32 rating this year. Savard received the Trophy from the President of the Board of Governors, Jean Brousseau.
In Rimouski, Petr Straka earned the Michel-Bergeron Trophy as the League's top offensive rookie. The Océanic winger recorded 28 goals and added 36 assists in 62 games. He received the Trophy from team CEO André Jolicoeur.
Gabriel Dumont was honoured with the Guy-Carbonneau Trophy as the League's top defensive forward after closing out the season with 51 goals and 42 assists in 62 games. Moreover, he posted a +43 rating. Dumont received the Trophy from team President Ãric Verrier and General Manager Dominic Ricard.
