Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal, September 10, 2014 - The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday that the Saint-Eustache/Deux-Montagnes AFFLL Lions have been chosen to host the 2014 Alouettes Festival. The city of Saint-Eustache will set the stage for the third edition of the Festival taking place on September 28. The event, which will be held on the ecole secondaire des Patriotes' synthetic field, represents another milestone for the Alouettes involvement in Quebec minor football and is shaping up to be a unique experience for the community of Saint-Eustache.

The 2014 Alouettes Festival will feature a doubleheader showcasing four teams from the Laurentides Lanaudiere Regional Football Association as the Lions of Saint-Eustache/Deux-Montagnes AFFLL and rival Blainville Jaguars AFFLL will go to battle for the championship crown in both the Atom and Mosquito divisions. The games will be played in front of family and friends in an atmosphere as raucous and exciting as that of an Alouettes game at McGill University Stadium, making the occasion all the more memorable for the defending champion Lions and their challengers from Blainville.

"The Alouettes Festival is at the heart of the organization's community mission. By recreating the excitement of a real Alouettes home game, we want these young players to live an extraordinary experience that they'll cherish forever," said Alouettes President and CEO, Mark Weightman. "We are proud to have more than a dozen local Quebec players on our team, something that we owe to the constant improvement of minor football programs in Quebec. It is our intention to continue positively influencing and encouraging young athletes who practice this sport in communities across the province".

For this special day, elements of a temporary stadium will be assembled and built in order to add to the magnitude of the experience for these young stars of tomorrow. Much like a typical Alouettes home game, the players will be able to run through the giant inflatable helmet, adding a little dramatic flair to the start of the game. Furthermore, this event will feature authentic team presentations by Alouettes stadium announcer Jacques Moreau. Adding to the feel of a professional game will be the singing of the National Anthem, a DJ playing music over the sound system, the Alouettes Cheerleaders pumping up the crowd, activities for young fans and even a halftime show.

This amateur football celebration was also made possible by the active involvement by members of the Saint-Eustache, Blainville and Basses-Laurentides communities, who will be joined by team mascot Touche and numerous Alouettes players this coming September 28.

Meeting on the field of the ecole secondaire des Patriotes

Kickoff is set for 12 PM, but families and friends are invited to join in on the fun and countless festivities starting at 11 AM.
