Saginaw Spirit News Release

Anticipation was high at The Dow Event Center in Saginaw on Thursday night, as the Spirit prepared to face the London Knights in Game Four of the 2012-2013 Quarter Final Playoffs. An extremely focused Spirit squad took the ice, to battle out a must win match ultimately falling to the London Knights 6-2.

London struck first when Seth Griffith scored his first post season goal with help from Miles Liberati and Ryan Rupert. While on the power play, Saginaw answered with a goal of their own from Assistant Captain Eric Locke. Locke's top corner tally had assists from Jimmy Lodge and Grant Webermin. Back in full strength, the Knights retaliated with a go ahead goal from Remi Elie and assisted by Paxton Leroux. On a bad bounce for Spirit goalie Jake Paterson, London shut the door on first period scoring off the stick of Max Domi. The 3-1 goal was assisted by Tommy Hughes and Alex Broadhurst.

The second period contained only one goal but did not lack determined play. With less than one minute remaining in the period, Bo Horvat buried an unassisted goal to take the score to 4-1 in favor of the Knights. After forty minutes had expired, the shots on goal were even at twenty per side.

London opened the scoring for the final time of the night when Olli Maata converted a goal with help from Alex Broadhurst and Chris Tierney. Shortly after, a well placed deflection from Spirit winger David Perklin changed the score to 5-2 London advantage. Perklin's goal had assists from Jason Shaw and Zach Bratina. The last goal of the game and the series was credited to Remi Elie who tallied his second goal of the night, assisted by Kyle Platzer and Paxton Leroux. With sixty minutes of hard work from each team, the London Knights advance to the next round after a Game Four score of 6-2 in Saginaw.
