Saginaw Spirit Announces NHL Alumni Participating in Shocks and Saves Charity Game

The Saginaw Spirit, in partnership with Pulse3 Foundation, Mobile Medical Response, Central Michigan College of Medicine, and the Detroit Red Wings Alumni, are proud to announce the NHL alumni taking part in the 2022 Shocks and Saves Charity Game.

The Spirit welcome back Jiri Fischer, who's cardiac arrest during an NHL game on November, 21 2005 cut his promising playing career short at just 25 years old. Since then, Fischer, with the help of Pulse3 Foundation, local sponsor, Mobile Medical Response, and the Saginaw Spirit, has teamed up with the rest of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association to put on the Shocks and Saves Charity Game in hopes of raising funds to make sure public facilities in the Great Lakes Bay Region are equipped with AED's (Automated External Defibrillator).

Since the inception of the Shocks and Saves Charity Game, the event has raised more than $700,000 and has placed over 250 Automated External Defibrillators in the Great Lakes Bay Region. With those AED's in place, a total of 11 lives have been saved.

Before the Saginaw Spirit and London Knights battle at 7:05 p.m. in Ontario Hockey League action, members of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association will face-off with local area physicians and first responders in the 14th Shocks and Saves Charity Game beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The following members of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association will take part in the Shocks and Saves Charity Game:

Jiri Fischer (five-year NHL player, Detroit Red Wings, Stanley Cup Champion 2002) 1997-98 CHL Top Prospects Game, 1998-99 CHL Second-Team All-Star, 1998-99 QMJHL Defenseman of the Year, QMJHL First All-Star Team, Hull Olympiques

John Ogrodnick (14-year NHL player, Detroit Red Wings, Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers) Two-time CHL Memorial Cup Champion (New Westminster Bruins) Memorial Cup Champion (1976-77, 1977-78) 1977-78 WHL Rookie of the Year, New Westminster Bruins, 1984-85 NHL First Team All-Star

Jason Woolley (16-year NHL career, three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, Olympian in 1992 Winter Game at Albertville, graduate of Michigan State University.

Jimmy Carson (10-year NHL career with Los Angeles, Edmonton, Detroit, Vancouver, and Hartford. Native of Southfield, Michigan.)

Eddie Mio (7-year NHL career, 3 seasons in the WHA. Played goal for the Detroit Red Wings from 1983-86.

Milan Hejduk (This is Hejduk's first Shocks and Saves game. He played over 1,000 games played in the NHL, all with the Colorado Avalanche.)

Brett MacLean (This is MacLean's first Shocks and Saves charity game. MacLean had his playing career cut short when he suffered a cardiac event during a pick-up hockey game in 2012. MacLean is now the General Manager of The Hill Academy U18.)

In addition to the notable Red Wings alumni, the Saginaw Spirit will be represented in the game by their play-by-play broadcaster and Vice President of Communications and Broadcasting, Joey Battaino.
