
Saginaw Falls 7-3 to Greyhounds

Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. - The Saginaw Spirit (36-25-3-2) lost 7-3 to the Soo Greyhounds (20-32-9-6) Friday, March 24, at the GFL Memorial Gardens.
Lincoln Moore scored two goals while James Guo earned two assists for the Spirit. Andrew Oke played the first40 minutes for Saginaw, stopping 30 of 35 shots faced. Brett Fullterton finished out the game for the Spirit, stopping one of three. Six different Greyhound skaters netted a goal, including Kalvyn Watson who potted two goals and an assist. Charlie Schenkel started for the Soo, stopping 18 of 21 shots faced.
The game began with the Greyhounds scoring first at 8:19. A scrum broke out behind the net and Owen Allard came up with the puck. Julian Fantino received
the puck out front and potted it over Oke's glove for his 12th of the season.
Just 31 seconds later, the Soo made it 2-0. Connor Toms passed to Bryce McConnell-Barker in the neutral zone. Marco Mignosa was given the puck next, and he flew into Saginaw's zone. Using his speed, the winger beat two Saginaw skaters and shot the puck under Oke's arm. The goal is his tenth of the season.
Saginaw went down a skater after Michael Misa went to the box for high sticking with 30 seconds remaining in the frame. The Soo could not add to their lead on the chance.
At the end of the first period, the Greyhounds held an 18-6 shot advantage and led, 2-0.
The second period started with Saginaw cutting the lead in half with a tally at 4:16. James Guo received a pass from Ian Phillips in the Soo's zone. The defenseman sent a pass to Lincoln Moore and he scored his fifth of the season.
The Greyhounds made it 3-1 with a goal at 5:51 in the second frame. Daylen Moses took a shot at Oke and he made the stop. Christopher Brown took the puck and shot it past Oke's blocker for his fifth of the season.
Ian Phillips was called for roughing at 7:39 in the middle period, giving the Soo a powerplay. The Greyhounds capitalized on the chance with a goal at 8:32. Kalvyn Watson potted the puck past Oke after Brenden Sirizotti's shot was turned aside by the goaltender. Kirill Kudryavtsev earned an assist on the play.
Saginaw scored their second goal at 14:25 in the middle frame. James Guo sent a long pass to Theo Hill. The overager setup Lincoln Moore with a one-timer pass, as he netted his second of the game.
The Spirit went down a skater after James Guo committed a tripping call at 14:42 in the second period. The Soo scored another powerplay goal at 15:49. Bryce McConnell-Barker sent a one-timer pass to Kalvyn Watson. The forward earned his second goal of the game after he potted it under Oke's glove. One timer in close under glove
After 40 minutes, the Soo led 5-2 while holding a 35-13 shot advantage.
The third period started with the Greyhounds adding to their lead at 4:55. Bryce McConnell-Barker tallied his 30th goal of the season after he received a pass from Marco Mignosa. Kalvyn Watson earned a helper on the play.
Saginaw went on the man-advantage after Ryan Thompson went to the box for cross checking at 11:31 in the third frame. The Spirit got their third goal just 24 seconds later. Brett Fullerton sent a pass to Joey Willis after a Soo clearing attempt. The center took a shot that Schenkel and the goaltender made a save.
Calem Mangone collected the rebound and scored his 16th of the season.
The Greyhounds added another tally at 15:51 in the final period. Matthew Virgilo fired a shot past Fullerton after he took a pass from Caeden Carlisle at the center of the circles.
At the end of the game, the Soo won 7-3 while holding a 38-21 shot advantage. With the loss, Saginaw falls to 36-25-3-2 on the season.
The Spirit head home as they host the Guelph Storm Saturday, March 25, at the Dow Event Center.
