Saginaw Faces Windsor in Final Regular Season Home Game

Saginaw, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit (48-16-1-1) will face the Windsor Spitfires (18-41-5-3) on Friday, March 23rd at the Dow Event Center for their final home game of the regular season.

Tonight's Game:

The Spirit will honor their three overage players, Alex Christopoulos, Josh Bloom and Braden Haché, with a special pregame ceremony.

Last Time:

Saginaw's last game was on March 22nd against the Sarnia Sting at Progressive Auto Sales Arena. Mitch Young scored the first goal of the game but two goals coming from defensemen Rodwin Dionicio and Zayne Parekh gave the Saginaw Spirit a 2-1 lead heading into the second period. Two more goals by the Spirit, one by Alex Christopoulos in the second and Josh Bloom in the third, further extended their lead. Easton Wainwright scored the last goal of the night for Sarnia, but Saginaw ultimately won 4-2 and clinched their fourth West Division title. Andrew Oke stopped 17 of 19 shots in his 100th OHL game.

The Windsor Spitfires traveled to the Budweiser Gardens to take on the London Knights on March 22nd. Carson Woodall scored the first and only goal in the first period, but London soon went on a three-goal run. Sam O'Reilly, Denver Barkey, and Alec Leonard were the three goal scorers for the Knights, but Ryan Abraham managed to score the second goal of the night for the Spitfires. Ryan Struthers scored his third goal of the season to tie the game up at three. However, Easton Cowan scored the game winning goal to give the London Knights a 4-3 victory over the Windsor Spitfires. Joey Costanzo was the starting goaltender for Windsor, stopping 29 of 33 shots.

This Season:

Saginaw is 6-1-0-0 so far this season against Windsor with their last matchup being on January 28th at the Dow Event Center. Jorian Donovan scored the first goal of the game unassisted followed by Alex Christopoulos scoring on his former team. Carson Woodall then scored his second goal of the season and the first of the night for Windsor. Sebastien Gervais scored two goals in the second for Saginaw, making the score 4-1 heading into the third period. Both Cole Davis and Michael Misa scored two more goals to end the game, giving the Spirit a 5-2 victory over the Spitfires. Nolan Lalonde saved 26 of 28 shots on goal starting in net for Saginaw. Joey Costanzo started in net for the Spitfires, saving 19 of 23 shots before being replaced by Max Donoso, who saved 21 of 22.

Players to Watch:

Zayne Parekh continues his stellar draft eligible season, leading the Spirit in points with 91 (first among OHL defensemen) and assists with 59 (second among OHL defensemen). Parekh is also first among OHL defensemen in goals with 32, followed by former Spitfire Rodwin Dionicio with 24. Owen Beck leads the team in goals with 33 and is currently on an 18-game point streak, collecting 12 goals and 18 assists since February 9th. Josh Bloom is on a ten-game point streak collecting eight goals and nine assists since February 24th. Andrew Oke leads the Spirit in every major goaltending category, with a 2.92 goals against average (GAA) (third in the OHL), a .890 save percentage (SV%), 28 wins, and two shutouts.

Liam Greentree leads the Spitfires in points (88), goals (35), and assists (53). Cole Davis is currently third among OHL rookies in goals with 23 and sixth in points with 41. Max Donoso leads the Spirit in every major goaltending category, holding a 4.22 GAA, a .873 SV%, 13 wins, and one shutout.
