
Saginaw Downs Division Rival Windsor 7-1

On Sunday afternoon, the Saginaw Spirit defeated their division rivals, the Windsor Spitfires by the score of 7-1. Scoring for the Spirit were Garret Ross, Eric Locke, Brandon Saad, Steven Strong, Vince Trocheck and Michael Fine. Jake Paterson turned away 27 shots in goal for the Spirit.
Garret Ross scored the first goal of the game for Saginaw in the early stages of the first period. Ross's goal was assisted by Brandon Saad and Vince Trocheck. Saginaw would extend their lead to 2-0 when former Spitfire Eric Locke would score his 18th goal of the season. Windsor would quickly answer back when Zack MacQueen found the net behind Jake Paterson to pull back within a goal. A little more than a minute later, Spirit captain Brandon Saad scored on the power play to once again put the Spirit up by two goals.
Saginaw would hold onto the 3-1 lead through the end of the second period.
The Spirit would resume their scoring ways when Brandon Saad scored his second of the afternoon and 30th of the season, assisted by Brad Walch and Vince Trocheck. At the 7:57 mark of the third, Spirit defenseman Steven Strong would snipe a shot from the blue line into the top corner of the net to push the lead to 5-1. For Strong, that was his sixth goal of the season. Seven minutes later, Vince Trocheck would put one into the goal column to go along with his five assists on the game, the Spirit lead would then be 6-1. Saginaw would not finish there as Michael Fine capitalized on a late power play, scoring the final goal of the game. The Spirit would head home on Sunday with a 7-1 victory over the Spitfires.
