Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - Sunday afternoon, Oshawa used Saturday's recipe for success to beat London 4-1 before a season high crowd of 6,150 at the General Motors Centre. Just like Saturday, Oshawa was outshot 42-27, and just like Saturday, they won. Once again, Kevin Bailie made 41 saves on the road to victory, and once again, Boone Jenner scored a shorthanded goal. Jenner scored the opening goal in both contests, and Lucas Lessio also added to his team leading goal total in both games, this time, he netted his 32nd. Oshawa's win and Mississauga's loss this afternoon means that the Generals' playoff push is really looking bright. With 64 points, Oshawa leapfrogs Mississauga and Belleville for 6th place in the Eastern Conference standings. With only 5 games left on the regular season schedule, things are definitely getting interesting.
Both power plays had opportunities in the first period, but it was Oshawa's penalty kill that got the job done. Scoring his 2nd shorthanded goal in as many games, Boone Jenner gave the Generals the lead at 17:31. At the end of 1, Oshawa had the 1-0 lead.
Oshawa's second period was all about brilliant goaltending and burying rebounds. The only blemish came when Watson scored a power play marker from the left circle at 3:44. The Generals struck twice with the first one coming at 1:07 from Lucas Lessio. Matt Petgrave added to the lead next. Heading into the third, the Generals led 3-1 despite being outshot 30-15.
In the third, Scott Sabourin officially put the icing on the cake, hitting the empty net with 19.7 seconds remaining on the clock. The final horn sounded a 4-1 Generals victory and signalled Oshawa's jump into the Eastern Conference 6 spot.
Kevin Bailie, Boone Jenner and Lucas Lessio picked up the three star selections.
This Sunday March 11th, the Generals travel to Brampton to battle the Battalion for a 2:00 PM start. The game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.
Oshawa is back home on St. Patrick's day, Saturday March 17th, when they take on Mississauga at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. It's the final weekend of the regular season, and puck drops at 7:05. It's sure to be a playoff atmosphere. The game will have a significant impact on the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
