Sadzeck's Superb Start Not Enough as Indians Fall 2-1 in 13 Innings

August 25, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -The only thing that could slow down Connor Sadzeck Friday night was his pitch count. The tall right-hander had his best start of the season against the Volcanoes, twirling six no-hit frames while striking out four and walking just two. Unfortunately for Sadzeck and Spokane, the game still had seven innings left. Salem-Keizer scored once in the eighth to tie the game and again in the 13th as they defeated Spokane 2-1 in front of 6,857 fans at Avista Stadium for a Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night presented by Yoke's Fresh Market and 92.9 ZZU.

Sadzeck has been nearly untouchable in his last two starts, allowing just one hit and no earned runs over 12 innings. The Rangers' 11th round pick in the 2011 draft has been particularly potent at home, where he has yielded just 11 hits in 34 frames at Avista Stadium this year while posting a preposterous 0.79 ERA.

The Indians offense was led by Ryan Rua and Brandon Garcia who each picked up three hits. Rightfield er Preston Beck picked up Spokane's lone RBI on a base knock in the third inning.

Though charged with the loss, Carlos Melo (1-2) gave the Indians every chance to nab a dramatic victory, striking out four over a season-high 4.1 frames.

Tomorrow's game is the fourth game of a five game series against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and is Breast Cancer Awareness Night and Pre-Game Pitch for the Cure presented by Mike's Hard Lemonade, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country, and KXLY Newsradio 920. Join the Indians in the fight against breast cancer as they wear special edition pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game and online. In addition, the Spokane Indians will have a pre-game walk leading on the field for the National Anthem. Proceeds from the jersey auction and the walk will go to the Eastern WA Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Tickets for all Spokane Indians home games are available for purchase at the Indians Ticket Office or at spokaneindians.com.
