Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox (14-17, 42-27) suffered a tough loss Friday night, losing to the Yakima Bears (14-17, 35-34) by a score of 4-3 at Everett Memorial Stadium. The Sox took a one-run lead into the top of the ninth, but a two-run home run by Yakima outfielder Mike Lang gave the Bears a late lead that they would hold.
The Sox would strike first in the contest, scoring a run in the bottom of the first. Third baseman Patrick Kivlehan doubled into the left-field corner, allowing Brock Hebert to score all the way from first base. In the fourth, Mike Faulkner connected for the third single of the inning to drive in a run, increasing the Frogs' lead, 2-0.
In the fifth inning, Kivlehan recorded his second RBI on a solo home run to left-center field, extending the AquaSox' lead to 3-0. The home run was Kivlehan's 11th of the season, taking the team lead and tying Salem-Keizer's Joe Rapp for the league lead.
The Bears took advantage of a couple miscues by the Everett defense to score a run in the sixth and another in the seventh, cutting the Sox' lead to 3-2.
AquaSox starter Victor Sanchez tossed 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing no earned runs (one unearned) on five hits and six walks. It was the second consecutive scoreless outing for 255-pound right-hander.
The AquaSox will look to bounce back Friday when they face the Bears for the fourth game of the five-game series with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Steven Ewing will take the hill for the Sox, and will be opposed by recently called-up right-hander Jose Martinez.
