Sacramento Republic FC Signs Forwards David Estrada and Cameron Iwasa

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (March 20, 2015) - Sacramento Republic FC has agreed to contracts with forwards David Estrada and Cameron Iwasa. Both players are traveling with the club to face Seattle Sounders FC 2 in Republic FC's season-opening match.

Estrada joins Republic FC after spending the last five years in MLS. Estrada began last season with Seattle Sounders FC before being traded to D.C. United in August. He appeared in nine matches for D.C. United, recording two assists while helping the club finish first in the Eastern Conference. He also came on as a sub in the second leg of D.C. United's conference semifinal series. Estrada has appeared in 50 MLS matches, scoring five goals and recording two assists.

Iwasa was the 65th pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the Montreal Impact, but was not signed. He joins Republic FC following a very successful four-year career with UC Irvine. Iwasa appeared in 85 matches for the Anteaters, scoring 22 goals and recording 14 assists. He was a MAC Hermann Award semifinalist, a NSCAA/Continental Tire All-American Second Team member and an All-West Region First team member. Iwasa, a Sacramento native, attended Jesuit High School.

Estrada and Iwasa will be traveling with the club for the first match of the USL season. Forward Thomas Stewart (minor foot surgery), midfielders Rodrigo Lopez (right hip strain), Max Alvarez (pelvic injury) and Zev Taublieb (left groin strain) and defenders Nemanja Vukoviæ (hernia surgery) and Matthias Bonvehi (right quad strain) are not traveling with the club due to injury.
