Tommy Thompson's brace and Dominik Jakubek's second straight shutout lead Sacramento Republic FC to a 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC 2 in front of another sold out Bonney Field crowd.

Both Republic FC and S2 saw early scoring chances in the first half. Republic FC nearly had a goal in the 3rd minute when midfielder JJ Koval missed a glancing near-post header off of a Tommy Thompson corner kick.

Sounders FC 2 forward Victor Mansaray had the first real chance of the match in the 13th minute when he was able to beat Republic FC's offside trap. Mansaray took a lofted through ball with one touch towards goal and sent a right-footed shot at Republic FC keeper Dominik Jakubek. The shot sailed just wide of the near-post and out of play.

Republic FC opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when midfielder Cameron Iwasa was awarded a penalty kick after being taken down inside the box. Thompson stepped up to the spot and sent a low right-footed shot to his right. S2 keeper Charlie Lyon read the kick correctly and made the initial save but Thompson followed up his miss and sent a right-footed rocket of a shot up and over Lyon and off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net for a 1-0 lead for Republic FC heading into the half.

Thompson added a second goal just after halftime in the 47th minute. Midfielder Octavio Guzman was attacking up the middle of the field when he was tackled and the ball came loose. Thompson collected the ball and promptly dribbled through the S2 defense before sending a perfectly placed right-footed shot from just outside the box past Lyon and into the back of the net for his second of the night.

S2 looked threatening in the 66th minute when forward Darwin Jones got in behind the defense. Jakubek, sensing the danger, rushed off his line and dispossessed Jones just outside of the box for a crucial save.

"We're delighted to win here at Bonney Field after a couple of defeats here that really hurt", said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. "We need to strangle teams because we should have had three, four, five goals. I'm very pleased with the clean sheet and the spirit of the team."

"I always love coming up to play here," said man of the match Thompson after his two-goal performance. "I think we dominated and got the three points we deserved."

Republic FC being their 2016 U.S. Open Cup run on Wednesday, May 18 when they take on CD Aguiluchos USA (NPSL). Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Bonney Field. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.
