New York Liberty News Release
NEW YORK - The WNBA announced today that Liberty guards Sabrina Ionescu and Courtney Vandersloot have been selected to play in the AT&T 2023 WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday, July 15 at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas. Joining WNBA All-Star captain Breanna Stewart, this marks the Liberty's first All-Star trio since 2003.
Ionescu will make her second career and consecutive WNBA All-Star appearance after averaging 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 38.2% from the field, 42.4% from three, and 86.5% at the free throw line through her first 12 contests of the 2023 season. Sabrina is the only player in the W averaging 15-plus points, five-plus rebounds, and four-plus assists per game this season, as well as the only player leaguewide shooting at least 40% from three on at least six attempts per game. On June 27, Ionescu became the fastest guard in WNBA history to reach 500 career rebounds at 80 games.
Vandersloot, in her first year with New York, garnered her fifth career and third-consecutive WNBA All-Star honor after posting a league-leading 8.4 assists per game, 11.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals on a combined 43.5% from the field through 14 games: including four double-doubles. On June 29, Courtney became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 2,500 career assists by 52 games, eclipsing the milestone in 372 contests.
Today, Vandersloot became the Liberty's 19th all-time player selected as an All-Star in franchise history. This is the 12th time in franchise history where multiple Liberty players garnered All-Star honors, and fifth time with three or more selectees.
Stewart will be featured in ESPN's broadcast of the WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special on Saturday, July 8 at 1 p.m. ET. The AT&T 2023 WNBA All-Star Game will be broadcast on ABC at 8:30 p.m. ET.
