Sabino Extends Hit Streak to 11 Straight Games

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Liam Sabino ran his hit streak to 11 straight games with an RBI double in Burlington vs. the Royals on Thursday. He has now hit safely in 14 of the last 15 contests.

The Cardinals dropped the decision in the series opener vs. the Royals 14-4. The Royals got out to a 12-0 lead before Sabino helped to highlight a four-run eighth with an RBI double.

Jose Moreno (3-4) suffered the loss on the mound for the Cardinals. He allowed nine runs, only two of which were earned, in 2.1 innings of work. The Cardinal defense committed three errors in the game.

Trejyn Fletcher reached twice in the game with a single and a walk. Sabino, Mateo Gil, Chandler Redmond and William Jimenez all carded runs in the game for the Cards. Sabino has now reached in 15 straight games.

Burlington leapt out to a 2-0 lead in the second on a solo home run from David Hollie before pouring on seven runs in the third. Starter Heribert Garcia (5-3) earned the win after five innings of scoreless work on the mound.

The Cardinals (28-26) will look to even the series on Friday with RHP Hector Soto (0-0, 3.57 ERA) pitching vs. LHP Angel Zerpa (5-3, 4.14 ERA) on the mound for the Royals. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.

Johnson City returns home August 21st to begin the final homestand of the season vs. Elizabethton. August 21st will be an All You Can Eat Wednesday. Fans can enjoy all you can eat hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos with cheese, chips, popcorn, ice cream sandwiches, and Pepsi Products. August 22nd will be Thirsty Thursday presented by Coors Light.
