Blue Jays Shutout Reds, Even Series

BLUEFIELD, VA - The Bluefield Blue Jays (27-28) defeated the Greeneville Reds (21-33) 4-0 Friday night at Bowen Field to force a rubber match. The Reds finished with just three hits, matching a season low. Tyler Callihan finished 2-for-3 with a triple, Danielito Remy collected Greeneville's other hit and walked.

Ryan Sloniger's seventh home run of the year, a solo shot leading off the second inning off RHP Graham Ashcraft (L, 2-3) started the scoring.

In the third, Leonardo Jimenez hit a two-out, two-run single off Ashcraft to extend the Blue Jays lead to 3-0. Eric Rivera singled into right field with one out in the fourth. Rivera scored on the play as the ball was misplayed by Danny Lantigua.

RHP Roither Hernandez (W, 3-4) struck out nine over six scoreless innings to earn his third win. Hernandez allowed three hits and walked one. RHP Julian Valdez and LHP Kyle Huckaby combined to work three perfect innings in relief.

Ashcraft allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits in three innings for his third loss. RHP Tanner Cooper struck out one, and allowed an unearned run on three hits in two innings. RHP Alberto Gonzalez struck out one over two scoreless innings, and LHP Jose Zorrilla struck out two in a scoreless eighth.

The Reds and Blue Jays will play a rubber match at Bowen Field Saturday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. RHP Spencer Stockton (1-0, 4.50) will start for Greeneville against LHP Naswell Paulino (1-1, 3.98).
