SaberCats To Salute The Troops On May 3rd

April 25, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 24, 2003) - The Arena Football League's San Jose SaberCats have dedicated their game against the Grand Rapids Rampage on Saturday, May 3, to the United States Armed Forces and will honor the different branches of the military with "Salute The Troops" night.

Operation Yellow Ribbon, a non-profit organization that exists to support all members of the military, will have volunteers at the HP Pavilion collecting donations for care packages to be delivered to troops overseas.

Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring personal hygiene or non-perishable food items for donation. Monetary donations will also be accepted to offset the costs associated with packing supplies and shipping costs. OYR will have a table on the concourse level at HP Pavilion near section 115.

Throughout the game the SaberCats will recognize representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard in attendance with public address and scoreboard announcements.

The ceremonial coin toss will be performed by families of soldiers who fought in the war and are currently stationed in Iraq. A giant American flag will be used for the national anthem, held in place by 50 individuals representing the five branches of the Armed Forces that are present.

For more information on Operation Yellow Ribbon or how to further help and support our troops, please visit www.operationyellowribbon.org.

Tickets for the May 3rd game and all other remaining San Jose SaberCats games at HP Pavilion are available and can be purchased through all Northern California TicketMaster outlets or the HP Pavilion ticket office.
