San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose SaberCats made some roster adjustments today in preparation for Sunday's showdown with the Arizona Rattlers. The club signed veteran receiver/linebacker Shalon Baker to their 24-man roster and also activated lineman George Williams from injured reserve, announced General Manager Terry Malley.
Baker (5-7, 185), originally joined the SaberCats in 1998 and played five seasons with the team before missing the entire 2003 campaign with a variety of injuries. He was named to the AFL All-Rookie Team his first year and to the All-Ironman Team in 1999.
The former University of Montana standout holds the SaberCats career record for assisted tackles, ranks fifth in receiving touchdowns and sixth in both receptions and receiving yards.
An integral part of the SaberCats line, Williams (6-4, 330) missed the last two games while on injured reserve with a shoulder strain. Over his three-year AFL career, the SaberCats are 30-4 in regular season games in which he has played. The former New York Giant has amassed 13.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks in nine games this season.
The SaberCats return to action on Sunday, May 9, when they travel to Arizona for a confrontation with the Rattlers. The game will be regionally televised by NBC beginning at Noon (PT). San Jose returns to the HP Pavilion at San Jose on Saturday, May 22, when they entertain Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul. Tickets for all remaining home games are available by contacting any Northern California TicketMaster outlet, online at www.ticketmaster.com and at the HP Pavilion box office. Group tickets can be purchased through the SaberCats office by calling (408) 573-5577.
