SaberCats' Nelson earns Rookie of the Month honors

SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 6, 2006) - San Jose SaberCats' rookie BEN NELSON was named the Arena Football League's Rookie of the Month today for his amazing performance in the month of March.

Nelson started at offensive specialist for the SaberCats in their four games in March and compiled an AFL-best 542 yards and eight touchdowns on 40 catches helping San Jose post a 2-2 record during the month.

In San Jose's 56-55 overtime win over Georgia on March 17, Nelson had 13 catches, the second-highest total in team history, and 165 yards. He ended the month with three straight 100-yard receiving games and set a new team record for receptions in consecutive games with 24.

This is the second league award given to Nelson this week. He was named the AFL's Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for his phenomenal performance in the SaberCats 61-49 win over Arizona on Apr. 2 when he amassed 203 receiving yards, the second-highest single-game total in team history, on 11 catches with 5 touchdowns.

San Jose returns home on Friday, April 14 to take on the Las Vegas Gladiators at 7:30 p.m. in HP Pavilion.
