Seattle Sounders FC News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - A second-half stoppage-time equalizer from Shandon Hopeau on Wednesday night allowed Sounders FC 2 (5-16-5, 20 points) to extend its home unbeaten streak to five games. S2 battled back from a 4-1 deficit to Tulsa Roughnecks FC (2-13-11, 17 points) and earned a point in a 4-4 draw at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. Tonight's match concluded a stretch of three home games in eight days in which S2 earned three points (0-0-3), as the club has now earned 18 of its 20 points in front of the home crowd this season.
S2 trailed Tulsa 4-2 in the 81st minute before David Estrada's team-leading 10th goal of the season pulled the home side to within one. Off a set piece, Antonee Burke-Gilroy pounced on a free ball and lofted it to Estrada who headed it home in the 82nd minute to make it 4-3. Estrada is now tied for 10th in the Western Conference in goals scored this season.
In the 94th minute, with Tulsa leading 4-3, Nick Hinds found Hopeau streaking down the left side. The midfielder cut inside the box and blasted a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper and found the back of the net. The equalizer was Hopeau's second goal of the season and the latest S2 has scored in a match in 2018. First Team players and Seattle area natives Lamar Neagle and Henry Wingo also scored for the hosts, with the former converting a penalty earned by Hopeau in first-half stoppage time.
Seattle was able to earn a point despite a hat-trick from Tulsa forward Jesus Ferreira. The 17-year-old kicked off the scoring in the 16th minute before tallying twice in the second half in a span of two minutes (54', 56') to give the visitors a 4-1 lead.
Sounders FC 2 returns to action on Saturday, September 8 at Sacramento Republic FC. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be live-streamed on ESPN+.
