SEATTLE, WASH. - Major League soccer today announced that Sounders FC defender Chad Marshall's red card from Seattle's match vs. Sporting Kansas City on Saturday has been rescinded by the Independent Panel. The Independent Panel, consisting of one representative from the United States Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association and one representative nominated by the Professional Referee Organization, has unanimously rescinded the one-game suspension and accompanying fine for the red card issued to Seattle Sounders FC defender Chad Marshall for serious foul play in the 81st minute of Seattle's match against Sporting Kansas City on September 1.
As a result of the Sounders FC appeal, Marshall is eligible to play in Seattle's next regular season game on September 15 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place (7:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
Each Club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including playoffs. Since Seattle's appeal was successful, the team maintains its two unsuccessful appeals for any future dismissals in the 2018 season (including the playoffs).
After extending its club-record winning streak to eight games with a 3-1 result on Saturday vs. Sporting Kansas City, Sounders FC (12-9-5, 41 points) enjoys a week off from MLS action due to a scheduled FIFA break, with six Sounders FC players in action for their respective national teams. Brian Schmetzer's side returns to action next Saturday, September 15 vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC (11-9-7, 40 points) at BC Place (7:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM), with a chance to clinch the 2018 Cascadia Cup with a win.
