May 6, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Tacoma Defiance News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - Sounders FC 2 (2-5-1, 7 points) on Sunday at Cheney Stadium dropped a tight match, 2-1, to Sacramento Republic FC (5-1-3, 18 points), the top club in the USL. S2 was even with Sacramento until the 82nd minute when an own goal put the visiting side ahead for good.
Felix Chenkam celebrates after his second-half goal (Charis Wilson / Sounders FC).
In the 61st minute, Felix Chenkam scored his third goal in his last two matches at Cheney Stadium to even the match at 1-1. The ball was touched by many players in transition before eventually finding the foot of Chenkem, who slotted it past the right side of Sacramento keeper Josh Cohen.
Sacramento got on the board first with a goal from Mitchell Taintor. He received a great ball from Jeremy Hall against the run of play and finished near post with his left foot. The goal was Taintor's first in eight games this season, and it marked Hall's first assist in his ninth match of the campaign.
S2 resumes USL action on Saturday, May 12 against Portland Timbers 2 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. It will be the second of three meetings between the clubs this season. Seattle won the first match on opening night in Tacoma, 2-1. Kickoff for Saturday's contest is slated for 5:00 p.m. PT on ESPN+.
