
Rysavy, Czechia off to World Junior Semifinals

Martin Rysavy and Czechia pulled off the upset of the tournament on Wednesday night in Edmonton.
Czechia eliminated the United States, who entered the medal round undefeated, with a 4-2 win in the quarterfinals of the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship. The two sides traded goals in the first period, but Czechia struck for a pair of goals from Petr Hauser and Matyas Sapovaliv in the second period to take a 3-1 lead heading into the third.
The U.S. pulled within one with a power play goal from Carter Mazur midway through the third, but Jiri Kulich sealed the upset win with a late goal.
Rysavy, who has two goals in the tournament so far, was held off the scoresheet in the win for Czechia.
Czechia will now face-off with Canada in the semifinals on Friday in Edmonton.
