Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA - It was déjà vu all over again on Tuesday night as Daymen Rycroft scored his second straight game-winning overtime goal for the Charlotte Checkers as they eliminated the Augusta Lynx from the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs, winning the series 2-0.

In an eerily similar resemblance to Game One of the series Monday night, Charlotte capitalized on an overtime power play as Rycroft beat Lynx goaltender Dave McKee on the glove side at 4:05 of the extra session to end the series and Augusta's season.

Rycroft also scored the overtime winner Monday night in Charlotte.

The Checkers scored twice to open the proceedings within 1:49 early in the first period. First Bruce Graham broke the ice by beating McKee on a rebound chance in front of the Augusta net at 4:35. Just under two minutes later Blake Bellefeuille put home a loose puck in front of the Lynx net after a dump-in to the Augusta zone kicked straight up the slot and trapped McKee behind the net, resulting in a yawning goalmouth for the Checkers forward and a 2-0 deficit at the break.

Ryan Lang responded for the Lynx with an unassisted power play goal at 4:24 of the second period, banking a shot in off the shin of Checkers' defenseman Kirk DeWaele to bring Augusta within a goal after two periods of play.

It took the Lynx over half the final period to register its first shot on net, and the team only totaled five in all in the third, but Shane Hynes finally jammed a puck past Chris Holt with just 26 second remaining in regulation time to whip the James Brown Arena crowd into a frenzy. Lang and Mike Erickson combined on the assists to prolong the year for Augusta to a second straight overtime.

Augusta finished the game 1-for-9 on the power play while the Checkers went 1-for-7. McKee stopped 25 shots in the loss and Holt earned the win with 21 saves.

The Augusta Lynx wish to thank its season ticket holders, fans, and friends for a tremendous year in 2006-07, and the team looks forward to celebrating the 10th Anniversary Season next year!
