Ryan's Quality Start Snaps Hens Four Game Skid
August 28, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Hens were back in action on Friday night in Columbus, Ohio to take on their in state rival once again. Toledo looked to bounce back after dropping their last four ballgames, all to the Clippers. Taking the mound looking to restore the Hens was Kyle Ryan who carried a 3-9 record with him into Friday night. Will Roberts took the ball for Columbus, as a win would allow the Clippers to hold a share of first place in the IL West.
Both starters had their A stuff with them as they each surendered a run in the first and were dominant after that. The first inning run for Toledo came off the bat of Jefry Marte, as the slugger doubled home Dixon Machado, for his 23rd double of the season. Roberts and Ryan continued to duel until a high pitch count forced Roberts to exit and the Hens' bats took full advantage off Clippers reliever Michael Roth. With Dean Green in scoring position in the seventh, Alexi Casilla lined a sharp single to first, good enough to score Green as the Mud Hens took back the lead. After the single, Casilla advanced all the way around on Dixon Machado's 22nd double of the season, and sent Roth to the showers after just 0.2 innings.
The Toledo offense tacked on an insurance run in the eighth as Corey Jones looked at a wild pitch sail to the backstop, good enough for Steven Moya to lumber down the line for the 4th run of the game. Ryan's night ended in the eighth after an Anthony Gallas home run brought the Clippers within two. The lefty left with a final line of 7.1 innings pitched, surrendering just two runs on four hits.
Jeff Ferrell came on in relief of Ryan and sealed the victory throwing two innings of one run ball. The Hens take the momentum back with them to Toledo on Saturday as they take on Indianapolis, first pitch at 7:00 PM.
