Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Joe Ryan and Shane McClanahan both pitched tremendously Friday, leading the Stone Crabs to 2-1 and 4-1 wins over the Palm Beach Cardinals at Charlotte Sports Park.
In a continuation game that started tied 1-1 in the top of the fourth, Ryan (5-2) worked six quality innings to earn the win. He struck out four and allowed just one hit to close out the game.
With the game tied 1-1 in the top of fifth, Charlotte (66-42, 31-11) third baseman Zach Rutherford lined a single up the middle with two outs. The next batter was Izzy Wilson, who cranked a double into the right field corner to score Rutherford and give Charlotte a 2-1 lead.
In Game 2, McClanahan (6-1) struck out nine over five innings, allowing only one run on five hits to notch the win. McClanahan has allowed one earned run or less in seven of his nine outings with the Stone Crabs.
In a scoreless game in the bottom of the third, Jermaine Palacios singled with one out. Two batters later, Wander Franco lined a single to left. The next batter was Ronaldo Hernandez, who rolled a ground ball to third. Palm Beach (48-59, 13-30) third baseman Nolan Gorman missed it, allowing a run to score to make it 1-0 Charlotte. The next batter was Moises Gomez, who cranked a two-run double off the wall in left to make it 3-0. Wilson followed with an RBI double to cap the rally at 4-0 Stone Crabs.
The Cardinals scored a run on a Juan Yepez single in the fourth to make it 4-1, but the Charlotte bullpen did the rest.
Jack Labosky worked a perfect sixth inning before Trey Cumbie struck out the side in the seventh to close it out.
The Stone Crabs will go for the series win at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Coverage of the game starts at 5:45 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
