
Ryan Ellis Windsor Spitfires Player Of The Week

(Windsor) Defenseman Ryan Ellis is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the Spitfires coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, November 29th. Ellis scored three goals and added one assist for four points in three games with a +3 plus/minus rating as he led the CHL's number one ranked team to a perfect 3-0 record last week, extending the Spitfires' winning streak to eleven games.
On Wednesday, Ellis recorded one assist and posted a +1 in Windsor's 2-1 victory on the road against the Plymouth Whalers. Two days later, Ellis scored an insurance goal in the shootout frame to end the contest as the Spitfires defeated the Peterborough Petes 3-2 by way of a shootout at the WFCU Centre. On Sunday, Ellis scored his first three goals in regulation time this season while posting a +3 and was selected as the game's first star as he led the Spitfires to an impressive 9-2 win against the Kingston Frontenacs at the WFCU Centre.
Ellis, an 18 year-old native of Freelton, Ontario was selected by the Nashville Predators in the first round, eleventh overall at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He also served as the Captain of Team OHL in the 2009 Subway Super Series games hosted in both Windsor, ON and Barrie, ON during the month of November, leading the team to a perfect 2-0 record in the series. Ellis is currently tied for ninth amongst all OHL defencemen in scoring with 22 points in 18 games and he is also tied for seventh in the OHL with a +21 plus/minus rating.
The defending 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup Champions will travel to Peterborough to face the Petes this Saturday at 7 p.m. and will take on the Oshawa Generals the following day at 6:05 p.m. Fans can watch both games live on TVCOGECO or follow the action with Play-by-Play man Mike Miller on AM800 CKLW.
The Spitfires will return to the WFCU Centre on Thursday, December 10th to take on the Erie Otters. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring new or lightly used toys to the game in support of Sparky's Toy Drive.
