(Windsor) Spitfires defenceman Ryan Ellis is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the team's coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, April 19th. Ellis scored two goals and five assists for seven points in three games played last week, leading the Spitfires to a 2-1 series lead in the best of seven Western Conference Championship series against the London Knights.
Ellis recorded three points was named the first star of game one on Wednesday scoring two goals and one assist, including the game winning goal in the Spitfires 4-3 overtime victory against the Knights. Two nights later, he posted two assists in Windsor's 6-5 game two overtime loss to London. Yesterday, he registered two assists, assisting on the game tying and game winning goals in Windsor's 5-4 game three overtime victory against the Knights.
The 18 year-old Freelton, ON is ranked 16th amongst North American skaters in the final list of the Central Scouting Rankings for this year's NHL Entry Draft. Currently, he is tied with teammate Taylor Hall in the 2009 OHL playoff scoring race with 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points and carries a plus-9 plus/minus rating after 13 games. During the regular season, he led all OHL defencemen in scoring and was ranked seventh amongst all OHL skaters with 22 goals and 67 assists for 89 points in 57 games.
The Spitfires will travel to London tonight, to play game four of the best of seven series against the Knights. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Fans can watch all Spitfire playoff games on TVCOGECO (Cable 11) or follow the action on AM800 with play-by-play announcer Mike Miller.
Windsor will return to the WFCU Centre for game five of the series against London on Wednesday, April 22nd.
